Cedar Mountain Systems · Colorado

Analytical software built with Python, SQL, and verifiable results.

Cedar Mountain Systems builds data products, analyst interfaces, and production systems. Work includes legacy-code modernization, financial and statistical workflows, and AI applications grounded in deterministic calculations and traceable source data.

Work

What Cedar Mountain Systems does

01 — Build

Custom analytical systems

Custom systems let analysts submit, query, review, and reconcile data through an interface built around their workflow. SQL supports storage, aggregation, and database transformations, with Python for calculations, estimation, and analysis where needed. Analysts can compare results, review percent changes, and apply transformations without writing SQL.

02 — Modernize

Legacy-code modernization

FAME, SAS, Stata, and similar production programs converted to tested, maintainable Python, delivered with a reconciliation harness that checks the converted program against legacy output to agreed tolerances across data vintages. Acceptance is documented in a signed reconciliation report.

03 — Connect

SQL and Python pipelines

SQL handles filtering, joins, aggregation, and transformations in the database, paired with Python for calculations and analysis that need its libraries. File interfaces, Excel bridges, integrations, scheduled runners, runbooks, and test suites support production workflows. Version control with Git or Azure DevOps is set up so analysts own their code.

04 — Validate

Validated AI applications

Deterministic programs compute the figures and trace them to source data; LLMs interpret results and draft narrative. The application’s validation layer checks numerical claims in generated text against the computed values. GDPQuery.ai is the reference implementation.

How work is delivered

Fixed-price, deliverable-based work, developed with tests first. Code and documentation are handed over in the client’s own repository, with no dependence on the vendor after acceptance. Cedar Mountain Systems also builds custom software and automation for small organizations.

Product

GDPQuery.ai

Hallucination-resistant macroeconomic data.

Answers questions about U.S. macroeconomic data: GDP, personal income, prices, and related series. Every figure is traced to the official source series and vintage, built for people who are accountable for being wrong: journalists, analysts, and researchers.

Open source

Sysop

An open-source agentic development workflow.

The structured workflow Cedar Mountain Systems uses to build and test software with AI coding tools: specification first, tests as the gate, every change reviewed against the spec. Wade Petty is the maintainer of the Sysop open-source project.

Government

For government buyers

Cedar Mountain Systems is a service-disabled veteran-owned small business registered in SAM.gov and certified by the SBA. It takes small, fixed-price, deliverable-based contracts — pilot conversions, toolkit replacements, reconciliation harnesses — sized for simplified acquisition. The founder spent 14 years as an economist across the U.S. Bureau of Economic Analysis and the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, including running a central production system at BEA, so the work is scoped by someone who has lived the estimate calendar.

About

Wade Petty founded Cedar Mountain Systems after 14 years as a federal economist: 11 at the U.S. Bureau of Economic Analysis and 3 at the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, working in the Current Employment Statistics program. At BEA, he served as a branch chief, ran the central production system for the national accounts, and co-led the deployment of an agency-wide Python environment. He designed and built GDPQuery.ai end-to-end — data layer, model pipeline, validation layer, and product — and maintains the Sysop open-source project. He is an Army veteran and a Colorado native.
